Couples Counselling

A calm, balanced space to understand one another, change unhelpful patterns and find a way forward together.

Does this feel familiar?

Slowing down repeated conflict

Relationships can easily become caught in repeated arguments, defensiveness, emotional distance or the frustration of feeling unheard. Counselling offers a dedicated space to slow down, understand what is happening between you and begin different conversations.

Communication & Conflict

Distance & Lost Trust

Pressure & Uncertainty

Cycles of repeated arguments, feeling unheard, defensiveness, or pulling away when trying to discuss difficult topics.

Growing emotional distance, feeling like room-mates, or rebuilding security after a breakdown of trust or infidelity.

Navigating parenting, work stress, or family pressure, as well as uncertainty about whether to stay together or separate.

Focusing on the relationship, not taking sides

I do not decide who is right, assign blame or take sides. Both partners have equal space to be heard, while the relationship itself remains the primary focus. Together, we explore recurring cycles, underlying feelings and unmet needs, looking at how earlier life experiences shape closeness and conflict.

My work is integrative, attachment-aware and trauma-informed, thoughtfully adapted to each couple. We work gently with communication habits, emotional safety, withdrawal, defensiveness and reassurance-seeking so both partners feel supported.

The process

How we work together

1. Initial joint session

2. One individual session each

3. Ongoing joint sessions

We meet together for an initial consultation to explore your relationship background, main difficulties and hopes for counselling.

A dedicated individual meeting for each partner to understand your personal history and perspective. These form part of the couples work, with privacy and secret-free boundaries agreed in advance.

We return to joint work, agreeing clear focuses and reviewing progress regularly as you work towards understanding and lasting change.

Suitability & Safety

Professional experience & training

Ensuring a safe environment

As a qualified, accredited counsellor offering therapy in Newington, Kent, I bring structured, compassionate support to couples in distress. Details of my specific couples counselling qualifications, clinical experience and advanced specialist training will be listed here.

Joint couples work requires mutual emotional safety and may be unsuitable where there is ongoing domestic abuse, coercive control, intimidation or fear. We assess suitability thoughtfully and discuss alternative individual support options if needed, without labelling either partner.

Newington Practice

A private garden room setting

Face-to-face couples sessions take place in my dedicated private garden therapy room in Newington, easily accessible from Sittingbourne, Rainham, Chatham and the wider Medway area. The setting features a separate private entrance, peaceful garden views, easy driveway parking and is just a 3 to 5-minute walk from Newington railway station.

Taking the next step together

You do not need to agree about the exact problem or know what to say before attending. Sometimes change begins when both people feel safe enough to understand the pattern, rather than continuing to fight within it.
